Adyen Prohibited & Restricted Businesses List

As of 2026-08-07, Adyen's published terms name 42 business categories as prohibited and 57 as restricted. The full list is below, grouped by status, with the exact policy language for each category. Adyen publishes one combined list where each product or service is marked P (prohibited from using Adyen's services) or R (restricted, meaning Adyen requires additional documentation prior to onboarding). Each category carries a separate status for direct merchants and for platform or marketplace businesses. This file records the direct-merchant tier, and where the platform tier is stricter the gloss says so.

FAQ

Common questions about Adyen's list.

What does "restricted" mean on Adyen's prohibited and restricted list?

Adyen marks restricted categories with an R and says it will require additional documentation prior to onboarding. Restricted is not a ban. It means Adyen may take the business after extra review, while categories marked P are prohibited outright.

Does Adyen allow gambling businesses in the US?

No. Adyen's list prohibits any type of US based gambling services for both merchants and platforms. Legal gambling and games of skill appear as restricted for merchants generally, but the US-specific line is a flat prohibition, so US gambling operators need to look at processors that accept the category.

Does Adyen accept supplement and nutraceutical companies?

Adyen lists nutraceuticals and food products as restricted, so supplement sellers face extra documentation and review rather than an automatic ban. Products involving highly regulated substances such as CBD or kava kava sit in a separate restricted line for merchants and are prohibited for platform or marketplace sellers.

Does Adyen work with adult businesses?

Only narrowly. Adult goods excluding fetish products are restricted, meaning extra documentation is required. Fetish products, sexual or offensive content in any format, and adult entertainment services such as strip clubs and escort agencies are all prohibited.

Why does Adyen show two statuses for the same business type?

Adyen scores each category twice, once for a business selling in its own name and once for platform or partner businesses such as marketplaces and payment facilitators. The platform column is often stricter, and Adyen states that restrictions on a platform also apply to its sub-sellers. If you sell through a marketplace on Adyen, the platform tier is the one that applies to you.

On the list?

Adyen won't board your category. We underwrite the legal ones.

Midnight Payments approves high-risk businesses with category-aware underwriting, low or no monthly fees, no long-term contracts, and daily ACH settlement. And if a shutdown already happened, a MATCH or TMF listing still has options.
